When introducing young learners to primary sources, it's helpful to connect to their lived experiences. This set of images showing children in school can spark conversations about similarities and differences to their experience in school. Have students complete a "See Think Wonder" for one of the images, compare to a friend's image, draw a picture of their school experience and compare to an image, or complete a Venn diagram identifying similarities and differences between images. How can students see their lived experiences in these photographs?

See this Primary Source Set on the Inquiry in the Upper Midwest website, and peruse other sets. Each set has Culturally Relevant Pedagogy context included, so check them out to learn about these sources through CRP lenses!

Great sources! How will you have the kids analyze them? Any ideas?
