Album Description

The George Floyd Memorial a in Minneapolis is more than than often shown mural and collection of flowers and artifacts at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago.  It extends into each street and a park a block away.  It attracts visitors from throughout the world.  Volunteers are working with museums and others to preserve these murals, signs and artifacts.

These photos were taken during my  Sept. 12 visit to the memorial. It was a moving experience.

Cup Foods, where Floyd was shot.  Cadex Herrera and two other artists created the 20  X 7 mural. Herrara said noted that murals are a place for poeple to show their their respect, sop, reflect, and think and come together. Murals give us a sense of place and belonging.   The center sunflower represents loyalty and life.  The black center contains names of Black Americans killed during police altercations.
