A well timed tweet today from @LOCMaps!  Combining this map with A Trip Down Market Street Before the Fire as well as a discussion of the newly found film footage of after the fire and quake would be an interesting inquiry and map exploration for students.  Also see the collection Before and After the Great Earthquake and Fire: Early Films of San Francisco, 1897 to 1916

Additional San Francisco Earthquake posts can be found in our Network.  Check them out.

Two films worth a serious look clearly illustrate the importance of looking carefully at bibliographic records and deeply examining and questioning what we are seeing:

I  learned about the films at an LOC PD meeting several years ago; the films are  always eye openers and a good discussion catalyst that inspires inquiry and more searching

Thanks, Cheryl,   Cheryl Davis for posting about this fun topic.

These films are great resources for elementary students too! The opportunities for kids to practice comparative analysis skills between the past and present are many, especially in the Trip Down Market Street video! Love these resources - thanks so much for sharing!
