Two essays written by historians of the American Revolution are linked from this short article. They gave me an appreciation for how historians view the American Revolution versus how events have been perceived in the media and popular press. I'd like to think that primary sources help our students appreciate the historian's point of view. The American Revolution is not as simple as we have been led to believe!

I enjoy pointing out to my students "The Test Acts" passed by several of the colonies. These ensured only rebels would be in the colonies. They also violated many more Rights then the English were violating. In the Movie, "The Patriot" Mel Gibson's character gives a wonderful quote on the issue. There is also an original document called "The Ruggles Covenant" against the revolution. All these open great discussions on viewpoint. 6 - 8 9 - 12 Social Studies/History English/Language Arts
