This hospital opened in 1891, was the first Black owned hospital in the US. The Library holds a wonderful photo collection of Provident Hospital health care workers taken by Farm Security Photographers.
Early health care initiatives by pioneering African Americans as part of Civil Rights is a wonderful topic for students in health classes, science classes and history classes to explore.
