A recent blog post highlighting the Federal Writers Project from the WPA (Manuscripts and Historical Journeys: The Maps of the Federal Writers' Project) included a map of the Underground Railroad.  Two maps are digitized and can be examined for many interesting details.

There does not appear to be much information on how the maps came to be, except that the information was gleaned from the Slave Narrative project where over 2000 former slaves were interviewed in the late 1930's. Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers’ Project, 1936-1938.

    I'm curious to know more and will add what new information I find.    Art/Music    English/Language Arts    Social Studies/History    6 - 8    9 - 12    13+    3 - 5
