Two aspects of using primary sources in the classroom are student engagement and inquiry-based learning.  Here is a strategy that will assure engagement through class discussion and inquiry-based learning by encouraging students to voice their opinion and support it with evidence.

    Make two signs: "Most Important" and "Least Important."  After giving the students time to study different primary sources (on the same topic), then assign pairs of students one of the p.s.  Challenge the pair to try to determine where they would place theirs along the spectrum.  Invite the whole class to try to vote for a class spectrum.
