Welcome to all the newcomers to this group.  I hope you find a home here, a place to share information, exchange ideas and expand your Personal Learning Network.  I have given you a link to a new blog post that is a wonderful introduction to one type of sharing and information exchange you can find in this network.

Following some or all of the blogs that are generated by the awesome staff of the Library of Congress is an easy way to learn new things and find new resources without spending your time hunting.

Please check out this blog posting and the resources it mentions.  I look forward to seeing you on the network, and remember, if you need help, just ask.

Danna Bell  has given us wonderful ideas of how to incorporate Women's History into the k-5 curriculum.  Do not think that k-5 cannot tackle historical material.  They are often the most excited and inquisitive group for using primary sources.

This week is Geography Awareness Week.  Using primary sources to map a story being read or a portion of history being studied is full of critical thinking skills, searching techniques and communicating with images practice.

StoryMap JS is another option for mapping stories. It allows students to create maps that display locations in a slideshow-like format. Each location added to the story can include text, images, and hyperlinks. The best part is that students can add dates (optional) to the mapped locations to create a timeline and map combination. The link to this app is above but here is a video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttb4e9ob1pI  on how it works.  3 - 5    6 - 8    9 - 12    Art/Music    English/Language Arts    Library    Mathematics    Science    Social Studies/History    Technology    maps  s  tory mapping

Colleen Smith  recently wrote about " Exploring the Great Migration with Primary Sources in Different Formats.  She used the great migration as an example of a primary source set and the ways it, and other could be used in teaching.  This is a very informative post that offers strategies that reach beyond the topic.  3 - 5    6 - 8    9 - 12    Social Studies/History    English/Language Arts    Art/Music    primary source sets
