Thomas Jefferson once said that "the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

This is an introduction album to the American Revolution

This is a good way to have students to begin a study of the American Revolution to think about a tree. Share the primary source that is fairly familiar of the patriots forcing the tax collector to drink under a sign that states "Liberty Tree". What is a liberty tree? How does this source represent liberty? Why was it called the liberty tree? What is liberty? Why a tree? All of these questions can inspire students to consider what other symbols do we have today that inspires liberty? Where do we meet to discuss liberty? Why is it important to have liberty? These are just a few questions to consider and intrigue students to learn about a revolution that occurred in America, The Revolutionary War.
