This album will help with the novel by Markus Zusak called The Book Thief. 6 - 8 9 - 12
The book takes place during WWII and the story follows Liesel Meminger, a young girl living with foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann, in Nazi Germany during World War II. Liesel settles down into her new home and during her time there, she is exposed to the horrors of the war and politics.
This is an introduction to the time and place.
After reading this primary source answer the questions below:
What was also going on?
What was the purpose?
What impact did Hitler have on Germany?
Students will observe, reflect and question the sources to discover what the time and place was like for the main character.

Thank you for sharing these resources, Cheryl. I distinctly remember reading The Book Thief in middle school - it definitely left a lasting impression on me and I still consider it to be one of my favorite books. Connecting primary sources with a book like this will only deepen the learning experience for students.
