I love using music in the classroom as primary sources. It helps students see things from diverse perspectives and is usually a surprise to my middle schoolers that there is actual historical meaning behind lyrics! Music also helps to get more buy in from students because it is something different from the norm. It is interesting to see what deeper level questions they start to ask and research about other topics once they see the significance of a type of source they may have not considered before.
