This lesson addresses “community memory” through the study of New York City and the construction of the World Trade Center Complex, specifically the Twin Towers. The lesson examines how the original Twin Towers established a sense of community and how the Towers were memorialized after the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

During the lesson, students will analyze and make meaning of artifacts from throughout the World Trade Center’s lifespan.

Includes a downloadable PDF of the lesson and an editable Google Doc handout.
