    The largest mass execution in American history (posted in TPS Commons) addresses the Dakota Sioux uprising in Minnesota during the summer of 1862.  Scaffold, awork of art planned for the Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis led to discussions and a reexamination of an intended worked of art which many found offensive.  Background information, a[photo of the contemporary sculpture and historic drawing of the execution could be a catalyst for a  history lessons and discussion in both art and  history classes.   Compare the photo and drawing shown in the original post.

    The fact that it generated controversy brought attention to the event sparking discussion.  I have always thought the arts to be instrumental in the arena of public debate and discussion. and appreciate its continuing role in highlighting what is often ignored.  A comparison of the original post with the controversial art offers opportunities to reflect and express understanding.
