Fall is quickly fading.  Before it ends, let's share some of its beauty!  Find a primary source that captures Maine in the fall and share below.

Is it a bird? A giant mosquito? No, it's Hope Prentice's and Mindy Staff-Pfahler's carved and painted 411-pound pumpkin at the annual Pumpkinfest, a colorful fall festival in Damariscotta, Maine

Teresa Colt (Mrs. Harris D. Colt Jr.) and her father-in-law, Harris D. Colt, with an unidentified friend at the Parmachenee Club on Parmachenee Lake. MMN# 19387

I found this in a Maine Historical Society blog post titled "Autumn in the Maine Woods 100 Years Ago," from 2014 -- the photo's caption reads, "Teresa Colt and her father-in-law, Harris D. Colt, with an unidentified friend at the Parmachenee Club on Parmachenee Lake, ca. 1940. MMN [Maine Memory Network]# 19387".

Thank you Alison!  This sent me on a little virtual tour to a part of Maine that I wasn't familiar with.

I'm wondering about the Maine Council for the Social Studies Conference scheduled for Oct. 30th, given the tragic and ongoing situation in Lewiston. We should be able to focus on beautiful Maine primary source images, but instead...

Thanks to the Carol M. Highsmith collection at the Library of Congress, we can often find beautiful and up-to-date images without copyright restrictions from any number of states. Here's a Highsmith photo of the "Penobscot River from Old Town, Maine, near the college town of Orono, Maine":

Tip: You can copy and paste most images from loc.gov into a text box here in the TPS Teachers Network, then resize it and add its URL. Very useful for other users, and nothing gets more "clicks" than a photograph!
