We often see superb primary source lesson plans shared here in the TPS Teachers Network. Occasionally it is necessary to send a Request Access message to the lesson plan creator in order to view the lesson. I'm not the most skilled user of Google products, so here's my question to the experts:
How does one automatically allow access to a Google Doc lesson plan to avoid the step of requesting access?
TIA!
After you click Share, make sure that you have selected "anyone with the link" under General access.
Julie - Thanks for the tip about the sharing procedure for Google files. I would mention that people often also forget to set which level of permission after changing files from "restricted" to "anyone with the link".
I would recommend that anyone sharing files on the Network always set this to "Viewer" or "Commenter" and not "Editor". As it implies, "Editor" will allow anyone with the link to edit you file which could lead to changes to your document/file that you don't want.
I know some out there are more visual learners (including myself), so I made a short screen recording walking though this process. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YhUzchbHbag-HaOaAUHdZX8CV6A07Ab6/view?usp=sharing
To add to the discussion, there is also some great URL tips that can help with sharing google docs depending on your audience. Put these at the end of the URL and see the outcome:
Some of these work in Sheets, too!
You can also edit the URL to "Force user to make a copy" See how here https://shakeuplearning.com/blog/force-users-to-make-a-copy-of-a-google-doc/
