After giving this lesson a lot of thought, I decided to make this lesson around research and using primary resources for research on a particular person or topic. I thought that Abraham Lincoln would be a great person to model this with using newspapers.

I found several newspapers from Lincoln's time and even years after he died. This would be a multi day lesson around research. What I want students to see is how they can use newspapers for research. What makes this a primary source? How do these writers feel about Lincoln, how do you know? Does everyone agree about the same topic, is there another side that can be researched? A lot of questioning and modeling using the images.
