This Album brings together World War I era newspaper resources and a learning activity from an earlier version of the Library of Congress/Teachers Page lesson “What Are We Fighting For Over There.”
- Students explore suggested World War I-era newspaper articles from Chronicling America and select an article to analyze.
- Students reflect on their chosen article, recording their thoughts on the Primary Source Analysis Tool, specifying the format of Newspapers.
- An alternate approach to primary source analysis is to use this updated Newspaper Analysis form.
- By using the updated Newspaper Analysis form, students have the opportunity to engage in supplemental research by means of curated online materials and traditional print books about World War I.

for the analysis tool. It relates directly to the subject and is such a valuable tool and time saver for teachers. The assessment component also enhances the learning process. This is to be bookmarked for sure.
Thanks very much for your comments, Neme. Because many of these WWI era newspapers are in the public domain, we are fortunate to have ready access to the materials. The Villanova University presentation “Hot Off The Presses: Newspapers During WWI” offers some valuable primary and secondary sources.
