This thorough and complete primary source based unit is intended to align with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Students will pick one element from the text to study in depth using primary resources from the Library of Congress. Primary sources will help provide historical context to connect with characters and events in the novel. Students will research that element closely. Students will then creatively demonstrate what they learned in a symposium setup. This unit plan provides very an extensive number of Library of Congress resources for backdrops to the 1920s. It is complete with step-by-step organizational tools and directions. 9 - 12 English/Language Arts Library Social Studies/History
