Tom Bober, this album reminded me that the picture books you pair with primary sources are great for all ages not just elementary grade learners.  I often get ideas from your posts here in the Network for using picture books with secondary students and adults in PD settings. The portraits and newspaper clippings in your album are excellent additions to the picture book story of Harriet Hemenway.

This book and this author are new to me but they follow a theme that Gay Thistle, in the TPS Eastern Region program used to develop a C3 IDM. Citizen Efforts to Change Environmental Policy in the Late 1800’s – How Did Birds Gain Political Protection? 

This is a cross curricular approach to investigate grass roots political efforts. Grass root political efforts are not new to our democracy and yet they are still used today. In this inquiry, students will analyze sources about a successful grass roots political effort that began in the late 1800’s by women to pass the Migratory Bird Act of 1913, even while in most states they did not have the right to vote.
