This "booktalk-within-a-booktalk" comes from  Elizabeth Cutter , a teacher educator (and personal friend) who is working hard to support her teacher candidates with ideas for online teaching. The author, Jeannie Mobley, is a Colorado author and a former student of Elizabeth Cutter! The booktalk features Mobley's book titled Katerina's Wish, a middle level story of a coal mining camp in southern Colorado in the early 1900s.

I know a lot of school and public librarians are offering both booktalks and read alouds online right now, but I think Beth's booktalk can serve as a model for any teacher. Furthermore, the possibilities for combining these particular books with primary sources are rich and varied.

Sincere thanks to  Elizabeth Cutter  for saving her video to YouTube and for allowing me to share it with all of you!

Refugees have immediate pressing needs for food, shelter, health care and clothing. Once these priorities have been met, they need a way to forge social ties, rebuild an informed civil society, and develop resilience for the struggles that lay ahead. Too often, the tools needed for this vital work are lacking. The Ideas Box fills this void, giving people who have been thrown into chaos the means to read, write, create and communicate. By providing access to the Internet, books, educational resources, theatre, and films, the Ideas Box empowers individuals and communities to begin to reconstruct what has been lost.
