This is the official verdict in the trial of Philip Vigol one of the two men found guilty of high treason after the Whiskey Rebellion. He was sentenced to be hanged for burning down the house of Benjamin Wells, a tax collector in Westmoreland County. Witnesses brought evidence that could not be disputed in Vigo's case or John Mitchell found guilty of robbing the U.S. Post rider outside of Pittsburgh. Both men were sentenced to be hanged but later pardoned by George Washington.
